At Canine Compass, We use balanced training techniques in order to best communicate with the dogs what is appropriate and what is not appropriate behaviours. This allows the dog to learn the desired behaviours. It gives the dog a choice, and with the knowledge that the desired behaviours result in something positive, and the undesirable behaviours have an unpleasant result, they learn to follow their owners direction.

Balanced training uses methods that include reward based and aversive techniques.
This training method teaches that doing what is told or expected is a good thing using a positive reward, and unwanted behaviour results in something unpleasant, encouraging the preferred behaviour even more.
A balanced approach to training allows for a larger range of techniques and tools that we have in our back pocket. Some of these tools include leashes, harnesses, prong collars, martingale colllars, educator collars (electronic collars), clickers and more.

Dog training never ends. It only gets easier with time and practice. There will always be teachable moments. You will see this with your dog long after training “ends” and the real world begins. Dogs will test boundaries, but as long as they are maintained, the dog will test them less and less over time.
